Presently, about 550
species of birds are estimated to be found in Sikkim including
migrants. This record is based on available data and may vary as more information
is collected. The bird watching tours are escorted by the local guides who have basis
knowledge on
the habitat of the birds. Most of the bird watching activities includes walks in the
Fambonglo
Wildlife Sanctuary and Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary near Gangtok in
East Sikkim. In North Sikkim bird watching is done in the Shingba
Rhododendron Sanctuary and in Meanam region near Rabangla in South
Sikkim and Yuksam, Tshoka, Dzongri and Khechupalri region in West
Sikkim.
