The
Buddhist festival of Bumchu is unique to Sikkim only, which is
celebrated on the 15th day of first Tibetan calendar year at the
Tashiding Monastery
in West Sikkim. The origin of the festival
dates back to 1700 AD, when the monks used to foretell the fortune
of Sikkim by looking at the level of holy water contained in the
pot kept in the monastery. The gathering of devote pilgrims,
religious prayers in the monastery for days marks the celebration.
The highlight of the tour is the stay within the monastery complex
during the festival in tented accommodation. (Details)
